How to Play Minesweeper

Reading the Numbers

Each number shows how many of the up-to-8 tiles touching it are mines. A 1 next to a single unrevealed tile means that tile is a mine. A blank tile means every neighboring tile is safe and clears automatically. Most boards can be solved this way through pure logic, without guessing.

• Start in open areas where blank tiles cascade and clear large sections at once.
• Flag mines as soon as you're certain — it keeps the count on unflagged neighbors accurate.
• Find a number that already has all its mines flagged — everything else next to it is safe.
• Compare overlapping numbers on shared unrevealed tiles to spot guaranteed safe or mined squares.
• Save true 50/50 guesses for the very end, when they affect the fewest tiles.
